By fostering direct connections between Taiwan and the international community, the Center will drive global conversations about Taiwan that are grounded in accuracy, historical fact, and respect for the Taiwanese people.
The Center will also bring international expertise to help Taiwan navigate turbulent global dynamics — from shifting geopolitical landscapes to evolving information ecosystems — equipping Taiwan's leaders, institutions, and citizens with the knowledge and networks they need to grow and maintain international support.
The core mission of the Taiwan International Center is to get the world to see Taiwan for what it is: a free and independent country.
Taiwan is a vibrant democracy, a global leader in technology and innovation, and a society built on openness, resilience, and the rule of law. It has a rich multicultural history impacted by the various empires that have tried to control the island, on top of thousands of years of indigenous Austronesian societies. Over the centuries the Spanish, Dutch, Manchus, Japanese, and the Republic of China all left their marks on Taiwan, which today is a free and democratic nation ruled by its own people — the Taiwanese.
The Taiwan International Center will work to strengthen Taiwan's relationships with its most essential allies by cultivating support among political leaders, changing media narratives to accurately portray Taiwan, and building support among general populations. The Center will serve as a center of expertise in Taipei on the country's most critical allies: the United States, the Philippines, Australia, the European Union (focusing on Central and Eastern Europe), the United Kingdom, and India.
The Center also recognizes the importance of Japan as Taiwan's essential and critical ally, but acknowledges the existing strong and durable mutual relationship between the two societies at all levels. This is a level of relationship that should exist between Taiwan and all critical allies at a societal level.
